As rationalists, we can know we are in love through reason and deduction. We know the characteristics of love and can see that we possess those characteristics. We can understand that we are in love by looking at the evidence and making a logical conclusion based on that evidence. For example, if we feel happy and content with our partner and feel a strong connection to them, it is reasonable to deduce that we are in love with them. As an empiricist, we can know we are in love through our experiences and observations. Observing feelings and behaviour, we can see that we are in love by how we feel when we are around our partner and when we think about them.
